James Bradford Huston - Film Maker (First Time Guest)
Synopsis:
A Winter of Empires is an homage to Star Trek and Star Wars. Galactic Civilizations reminiscent of the Federation and Imperials build a dangerous rivalry over a mysterious frozen world. The conflict becomes deeply personal when governments on both sides fail everyone.
Personal Background:
At 12, James Bradford Huston was making video games and Claymation. By high school, he was making a comic series. After college, he made a motion-comic that showed in film festivals. The success gave him the courage to build and operate a small film studio in San Francisco. Although one of his first clients was an Oscar nominated actress, Huston only kept the studio open for roughly a year. The choice to close the studio was as much a creative choice as it was a medical one. An epilepsy condition he had since 23 became more serious quickly after having a seizure while driving. The seizures grew in number and severity until they were causing brain damage. Huston intermittently lost speech and movement for long periods of time. Fighting to live was not enough. James wanted to live to share his creativity. Today, James Bradford Huston is 2 years without seizures.
The Red Rum Pirate Band - Featured Artist (First Time Guests)
The Red Rum Pirate Band is a comedic Pirate-clad folk band traveling the land-locked Mid-West in search of merriment at Pubs, Renfaires, Festivals, Conventions, Private functions and wherever someone will listen and pay us (hey, we are pirates). The band has been known to cause spontaneous bouts of toe-tapping and hand-clapping to classic festival and convention tunes, pub songs, nautical sailor’s tunes, pirate and renaissance folk music. The band plays both traditional and original songs (including parodies) in our very own zany style of nautical comedy. Red Rum likes to think of ourselves as a combination of Captain Jack, the Smothers Brothers and the Kingston Trio.
The crew has almost 100 collective years of musical performance experience under their belt. They were members of the cast and staff that ran the beloved Indiana Renaissance Festival for 15 years. The crew are also avid gamers, movie nerds, pop culture geeks and Adam participated on science panels in various Sci-Fi and Fantasy Conventions in the South. They have been performing music together since 2013. Red Rum consists of the songwriter and punster, Captain Red, played by Adam Fivush, the bubbly and demented ship’s cookie/gunner, Lady Rum, played by Andrea Fivush, and the stoic folk music connoisseur, Scurvy. Our Rhythm Man, Red, plays acoustic and electric guitar (6 and 12 string) and is the main instigator of the band’s originals and parodies. The String Mistress, Rum, plays over 83 strings in total between her autoharp, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, and bowed psaltery while the Maestro, Scurvy, plays banjo, harmonica, mandola, fiddle, bass guitar, bodhran, spoons, and penny whistle and writes instrumentals and partners with Red on the originals. They all sing, make nautical jokes, banter with each other, and interact with the crowds.
