Celebrating Star Trek’s vision of the future through humanitarianism and STEM education

Hello Starbase family,

Many of you have been inquiring about our plans for 2026, so we’re happy to provide our community with this update.

Starbase Indy is evolving - and we’re still working on all of what that is going to mean.  One thing we do know is that we don’t currently have the resources to put on the Thanksgiving Weekend convention in 2026 as we’ve done for 21 of the past 22 years.  Unfortunately, costs for such an event have been rising, and our attendance in recent years just hasn’t quite kept up with these increases.  We need to take some time to fund raise, recruit volunteers, and build interest before we can resume a big annual Indy convention.

If you’d like to be a part of working on this with us, you can join our planning meetings. Our regular monthly meetings are scheduled on the fourth Sunday of each month. You can join in person at the Southport Library from 2:00 - 4:00. We also have a virtual option available

Our next meeting will be April 25, and the agenda will include reviewing several meetup plans that are already in the works. We’re actively looking for people who want to plan, volunteer for, and organize these “shuttle missions,” both as ways to raise funds towards the November event, as opportunities to gather with our community, and as ways to energize new volunteers and community members.

This survey is designed to help us understand what sorts of events are most likely to be successful.

In addition to all of this activity, we’ll also continue some of the special projects we’ve begun in recent years.

  • The Starbase Indy Podcast has been around for several years, and we’ll reach the 100th episode this June!  Check out our interviews with writers, scientists, actors, and the collection of panels we recorded at last year’s convention.

  • Our first Anthology of Science Fiction and poetry was released at the 2025 event. You can get your copy as either an ebook or a physical book online.

  • We’ll be accepting submissions for this year’s anthology later this summer.

  • We are exploring new meetup opportunities in 2026, such as a one-day outdoor festival, speaker series, and other events.

We love Starbase Indy, both the community and the event, as much as you do, and we know there is a way forward together.  We look forward to finding it with you, to continue our mission of providing inspirational content and activities relating to Star Trek, STEM, and humanitarianism to aid in creating a future that is inclusive and diverse.

Sincerely,

The Starbase Board.
