Programming

At SBI 2017, we’ll bring together an incredible group of media guests to amuse us with behind-the-scenes Hollywood stories, as well as expert STEM speakers. The Klingons have declared SBI their primary convention for 2017 and will be running their own programming in a dedicated room all weekend long. As the guests are confirmed for SBI 2017, we will begin announcing them. Look for this information to start coming out in August of 2017.

SBI media guests Armin Shimerman and Rene Auberjonois, who appeared together on the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine television series, on stage at SBI in 2013. They were charming and HILARIOUS!

Astronaut Dr. David Wolf came to visit in 2012. His personal stories from his time on the space station and with NASA were mesmerizing.

workshops

Workshops allow you to make or explore STEM concepts (like working an advanced math problem like those seen in the film"Hidden Figures"), learn an applied science skill (like brewing beer or building your own solar energy system), or create a fun geeky crafts to take home (etch glass with your favorite molecular symbol or make a tribble).

All other badge holders will need to register for a time slot at the event. Maximum group size is 6.

Live Music

Five Year Mission are launching their new album, Year 4!

The members of this Trek-inspired music project were first brought together by their mutual love of science fiction, and they have since performed across the U.S. and alongside many cast members of the Star Trek universe, including Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner! As Five Year Mission endeavors to write an original song for every episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, their latest disc includes selections based on classic episodes such as “Return to Tomorrow,” “The Enterprise Incident,” “Day of the Dove,” “By Any Other Name,” “For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky,” and many more. The band will perform live renditions of tracks from Year4 - several for the very first time - as well as many fan favorites. You won’t want to miss this singular event; to do so would be highly illogical!

Geek Shopping

The Vendor area will be tripled in 2017! We are currently canvassing other conventions and the internet to identify the best vendors and we've made arrangements to have Gorn Santa hold court in the hall for photos so that you can enjoy the full Black Friday/ Small Business Saturday/ and after Thanksgiving weekend experience.

panels and tables

We have added smaller spaces this year for attendees to reserve for whatever they would like to do! Play a board game, have a tea-party, talk about your favorite fandom, go on a Pokemon hunt, present your paper on micro-beads and their impact on the environment for feedback, talk about homeschooling issues, we want to help you find YOUR PEOPLE and have the experience you are looking for. Traditional panels will now be divided by size to appropriately accommodate both large and small groups.
