** This schedule is not final.  We are adding additional content and information daily..

Special Guest speakers

At SBI 2017, we’ll bring together an incredible group of media guests -- to amuse us with behind-the-scenes Hollywood stories -- like Robert O'Reilly from Star Trek, as well as expert educational speakers like Dr. David Wolf, Kyle Hill - science correspondent for the Nerdist, and Dr. Noor from Duke University.

Various photo and autograph opportunities with our special guests will occur throughout the weekend.

If you would like to spend time chatting with one of our special guests, away from the crowds and lines, you should check out our "Dinner with the Stars" event where you can sit with your favorite guest for an evening of dinner and entertainment.

STEM workshops and presentations

Workshops allow you to make or explore items based on STEM concepts, such as working on an advanced math problem like those in the film"Hidden Figures," learning an applied science skill, brewing beer, building your own solar energy system, or extracting banana DNA.

Special Programming for Children 13 and Under

This year we have expanded our children's programming all weekend. Sunday is now a can't miss event for kids featuring an interactive science fair and a costume contest for 13 and under!

Live Action Role playing

"Flies in Amber” is a Cthulhu Live! / Star Trek crossover LARP, set in the 23rd century. This is the Original Series timeline. Players will take up the roles of miners, members of the crew of The Archimedes, and loyal servants of the Klingon Empire. There are several alien races to choose from and costumes are encouraged. Character are preassigned. Badge holders can preregister online now!

Fifteen minutes for you and up to four other people to address and resolve a situation presented in a Star Trek episode through STEM knowledge. This event will run throughout the convention beginning Friday. Preregistration for time slots will be available until midnight Nov. 6 for those who have purchased their convention badge. All other badge holders will need to register for a time slot at the event. Maximum group size is 5.

Live Music

Five Year Mission is launching its new album, Year 4!

The members of this Trek-inspired music project were first brought together by their mutual love of science fiction, and they have since performed across the U.S. and alongside many cast members of the Star Trek universe, including Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner! As Five Year Mission endeavors to write an original song for every episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, their latest disc includes selections based on classic episodes such as “Return to Tomorrow,” “The Enterprise Incident,” “Day of the Dove,” “By Any Other Name,” “For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky,” and many more. The band will perform live renditions of tracks from Year4 - several for the very first time -- as well as many fan favorites. You won’t want to miss this singular event: to do so would be highly illogical!

Geek Shopping

The Vendor area will be tripled in 2017! We have brought together a variety of vendors so that you can enjoy the full Black Friday/ Small Business Saturday/ and after Thanksgiving weekend experience. A Geeky Shopping only badge is available for $5 at registraion onsite or now online (use code GORNSANTA for a 5$ discount on that or any online pre-sale badge).

panels and tables

We have added smaller spaces this year for attendees to reserve for whatever they would like to do! Play a board game, show off your book, run a podcast, have a tea party, talk about your favorite fandom, go on a Pokemon hunt, present your paper on micro-beads and their impact on the environment for feedback, talk about homeschooling issues, etc. We want to help you find YOUR PEOPLE and have the experience you are looking for.

Starship Bridge Simulator

Teams of six players will crew a Star Trek-style starship as Captain, Helm, Science, Communication, Engineering, and Weapon Control officers. You work as a team to operate the ship and defend the sector from evil aliens. Crew will be assembled onsite so don’t worry if you don’t have a group of 6 to start off with. This game is best for ages 13 and up.

The Starship Simulator will follow a first come, first served game signup sheet. If you want to live out your lifelong fantasy of flying a Starfleet vessel, purchase your Starbase Indy badges today.
