Volunteer

We choose to put on Starbase Indy not because it is easy, but because it is hard. Because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because the challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win.

Starbase Indy is an all year-round effort to create an inspiring event that brings our geek family together in celebration of ideas and values that we want to share with our community At its heart is a core community who are inspired by Star Trek and who enjoy having fun with their friends. If you are looking for a smart, creative, idealistic, and industrious tribe of dorks, we may be just the dorks you are looking for.

The larger our crew, the further we can boldly go!

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Use your skills in support of your community.

  • Learn new skills and put them into practice in a way that can build your professional resume.

  • Have a voice in shaping the future of Starbase Indy.

  • Enjoy the pleasure that comes from doing something challenging with a committed community of people.

Apollo 11, the first moon landing, is a story that belongs to many.

It belongs to the seamstress who put together twenty-two layers of fabric for each space suit. To the engineers who created a special heat shield to protect the capsule during its fiery re-entry. It belongs to the flight directors, camera designers, software experts, suit testers, telescope crew, aerospace technicians, photo developers, engineers, and navigators. It also belongs to the contributors of every penny, the maker of every sandwich, and every patient person who kept smiling through it all.

Our "crew" work toward a better tomorrow where we humans are prepared with the knowledge to reach any star and the wisdom to navigate the sociological complexities we may encounter on the way.

When you support our efforts, the people who work and attend Starbase Indy will see you and your organization as focused on a hopeful future.

A lot of our most popular programming is created by members of our local community. If you are passionate about something and want to share it with the Starbase Indy community, let us know. Here are some types of events we host at Starbase Indy:

  • A presentation is a talk (with or without AV support) delivered by one person. This person is a subject matter expert of some sort, with education and experience related to the topic they’re presenting.
  • A panel is a discussion with multiple presenters who discuss the topic.
  • A workshop / demonstration is a hands-on event where the presenter or presenters teach the audience members how to do or create something. Starbase Indy may offer reimbursement for workshop supplies.
  • A discussion is an opportunity for people who are interested in a topic to come together and talk about it. You don’t need any specific expertise for this, just a desire to talk with people who are interested in the same things you are.

Subject matter experts are often provided with a discounted or complimentary badge.
